On a Monday night, a group of demonstrators marched from Nathan Phillips Square to the Art Gallery of Ontario, aiming to disrupt a high‑profile investment summit that gathered hundreds of global executives and asset managers.

Police said two women, identified as 44‑year‑old Shelly Agius and 49‑year‑old Lily Phan, were arrested after refusing to clear the road on McCaul and Dundas. Agius faces charges of obstructing a peace officer and mischief, while Phan is charged with obstructing a peace officer and assaulting an officer.

The protest reflected opposition to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plan to channel roughly $1 trillion of new investment into Canada over the next five years, a goal that the summit sought to promote.
