Art collective Anak Alam’s 50th anniversary celebrated at Harta Space
The Anak Alam collective is marking its 50th anniversary with a major exhibition at Harta Space in Ampang, Selangor, featuring a distinguished line-up of Malaysian artists.
The showcase, Anak Alam 50 Tahun (1974–2024), brings together over 60 artworks and archival materials by 12 Anak Alam artists, including Latiff Mohidin, Mad Anuar Ismail, and Mazlan Noor Along. The exhibition charts the movement’s development from the 1960s through the 2020s, with a gallery show and an archival documentation space.
The exhibition aims to examine the contributions of each Anak Alam artist, with curator Faizal Sidik hoping it will lay the groundwork for a larger-scale exhibition in the future. Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar, who was part of the Anak Alam community in the 1970s, describes the showcase as an important occasion to reassess the collective’s contribution after five decades.
