Artists Brent Kee Young and Emily Culver to lead talk and tour
On Saturday, Oct. 31, The Sculpture Center will open its doors for a free talk and tour led by artists Brent Kee Young and Emily Culver. Visitors can walk through each exhibition while the creators share the ideas and processes behind their work.
Brent Kee Young presents “A Concept in Flux: The Matrix Series,” a set of large‑scale forms built from flame‑worked borosilicate glass rods. The pieces investigate how line, light and space generate volume, and they reflect Young’s decades of teaching—he retired as an emeritus professor after 42 years at the Cleveland Institute of Art. His sculptures belong to major collections such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Emily Culver offers “Holotyped,” an investigation of how bodies are classified through scientific and medical systems. Using hybrid anatomical sculptures and reimagined instruments, the show questions the standards that define a “normal” body. Culver teaches as an assistant professor at Old Dominion University, bringing a scholarly edge to her practice.
The program provides a rare opportunity to hear directly from the artists about technique, concept, and the broader cultural conversations their work engages.
