Bioscope… brings Bollywood’s golden era back

A recent exhibition at the Kokoro Art Gallery has brought back the nostalgia of Bollywood's golden era. The exhibition, titled Bioscope: Karwaan Guzar Gaya, features around 70 film postcards that showcase the visual journey of Hindi cinema.

The exhibition, curated by Vandana Sehgal, presents a wide range of postcards, from the classic Pukar (1939) to the contemporary Dhurandhar (2025), highlighting the evolution of Bollywood's promotional art over time. The postcards on display include Ram Raj (1943), Anarkali (1953), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Pakeezah (1972), Swades (2004), and Rang De Basanti (2006), offering a glimpse into the changing aesthetics and storytelling of Bollywood.

The exhibition not only showcases the artistic and technical evolution of Bollywood posters but also reflects the changing social values and popular visual imagination of the time. As one visitor noted, the exhibition is like walking through memories of cinema, with each postcard capturing the design and emotions of its era.
