Bob Ross art instructor teaches others in Yorktown
Scott Eubanks, a former Air Force serviceman turned certified Bob Ross instructor, now brings the soothing world of oil landscape painting to Yorktown. After discovering Ross’s studio in Florida, he endured a rocky start—struggling with brushes and mountains—but persistence turned his frustration into mastery, earning him three levels of certification.
Based out of On the Hill Art Gallery, Eubanks runs regular classes, private sessions, and demos at Yorktown Market Days, inviting newcomers of any age to pick up a palette. He emphasizes the “happy accidents” philosophy, encouraging students to view mistakes as part of the creative process.
Beyond the classroom, Eubanks paints his own nature scenes from a garage studio and the beach, while his wife Laura handles promotion. With plans to study sculpture at VCU and eventually open a dedicated studio, he aims to expand the community’s access to the joyful, therapeutic practice that first drew him to art.
