Boy thrown from Tate Modern balcony in attack finally released from hospital
A six‑year‑old French visitor was hurled from a viewing balcony at Tate Modern in August 2019, surviving a 30‑metre fall but sustaining a brain bleed, multiple fractures and other life‑changing injuries. The attack was carried out by a teenager who later received a lengthy prison term.
Almost seven years later his family announced that the boy, affectionately called "our little knight," has finally left hospital. After a brief return to school before the summer break, he expressed a renewed smile, eager to rejoin classmates and resume a more normal routine.
He now faces an intensive rehabilitation programme that includes physiotherapy, speech work and neuropsychology, supported by a GoFund Fund campaign that has raised over £500,000. To celebrate his discharge the family plans a tandem paragliding outing, a coastal trip with friends, adaptive swimming lessons and extra maths tutoring to make up for lost school time.
The perpetrator, Jonty Bravery, was sentenced to life with a 15‑year minimum for attempted murder and has since served additional time for assaults on staff at Broadmoor high‑security psychiatric hospital.
