BTS' RM to feature personal art collection at SFMOMA
RM's personal collection opens at SFMOMA in the show RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me, debuting on Oct. 3 and running through Feb. 7, 2027. The exhibition marks the first museum presentation of the BTS leader’s assemblage and the first time the San Francisco institution has partnered with a K‑pop artist.
Around 180 works—roughly 140 from RM’s own holdings and the balance from the museum—populate the galleries, bringing many pieces to U.S. audiences for the first time. Korean modern and contemporary artists such as Yun Hyong‑keun, Park Re‑hyun, Chang Uc‑chin, Kwon Ok‑yon, Kim Yun‑shin and To Sang‑bong sit alongside Western names like Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe, creating a dialogue that spans continents and decades.
RM took an active role in shaping the show, working with co‑curators América Castillo and Kim Hyo‑eun, writing bilingual wall texts, recording audio guides and even selecting the gallery soundtrack. His hands‑on approach turns the exhibition into a personal introduction, as he has described it, rather than a conventional retrospective.
Beyond the personal narrative, the project expands SFMOMA’s commitment to global conversations in art, tracing Korean visual culture from the sixth‑century ceramic tradition to contemporary practice. The result is one of the most comprehensive surveys of modern and contemporary Korean art ever mounted in the United States.
