‘Celebrating Together’ brings works of 70 women artists to Jalandhar
The Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi and Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, together with Apeejay Education, launched the inaugural exhibition Celebrating Together – Women Artists of Punjab and Chandigarh at the Dr Stya Paul Art Gallery, Virsa Vihar in Jalandhar. It showcases works by seventy women creators from the two states, offering a vivid snapshot of contemporary practice.
Visitors encounter a wide range of media—paintings, sculptures, mixed‑media pieces, video installations, graphics and hand‑embroidery—reflecting both personal narratives and broader social concerns. A dedicated segment highlights artists with disabilities, featuring pieces by Rehnuma Rani, Vaishali, Raktima, Pallavi and Sonam Jain, whose contributions add a compelling layer of resilience and imagination.
The opening program welcomed civic and cultural leaders, including the deputy commissioner of police, the president of the Punjab Arts Council and the heads of the two academies. Their remarks underscored the importance of recognizing women’s voices in art and celebrating the inclusive spirit of the show.
The exhibition remains on view until September 14, open daily from 10 am to 7 pm, inviting the public to engage with the diverse stories and aesthetic explorations presented by these artists.
