Chitra Sante opens with 88 stalls of artworks
The two‑day Chitra Sante opened with a vibrant ceremony at the Manasagangotri campus, right in front of the historic Clock Tower, marking the start of a bustling art exhibition ahead of Mysuru Dasara.
Eighty‑eight stalls now line the venue, offering paintings and mixed‑media works from artists spanning the state and the country. Organized as a genuine platform for creators, the fair emphasizes the display and sale of artworks rather than commercial merchandise, inviting visitors to engage directly with the makers.
Among the highlights is Pallavi Javalekar’s stall, where handcrafted postcards capture iconic Mysuru landmarks such as Srirangapatna and Jaganmohan Palace, and her coffee‑stain bookmarks draw curious collectors. Custom bookmarks, mini‑canvas illustrations, and a variety of other pieces have become popular draws throughout the fair.
Dignitaries, including Yathindra Siddaramaiah, paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue before touring the stalls, while the city’s commissioner unveiled the poster for the Children’s Dasara programme. The event calls on art lovers to explore the exhibition and support the many participating artists.
