Distillery opens in Cumberland County following 12-year restoration
Moon Bird Distilling has turned the long‑neglected The McClellan Place in Carlisle into a buzzing hub where craft spirits, brick‑oven pizza and the arts converge. After more than a decade of hands‑on restoration, the former condemned structure now houses a micro‑distillery, a pizzeria, a live‑music courtyard and a modest gallery, all under one roof.
The bar serves small‑batch whiskeys, gins, vodkas and seasonal brandies, alongside inventive cocktails, while the adjoining pizza oven delivers crisp, wood‑flamed slices. Patrons can wander the open‑air courtyard for performances or linger among rotating works by local artists, making the space as much a cultural venue as a drinking spot.
Backed in part by a Cumberland Area Economic Development Association Tourism Product Development Grant, a custom mural now brightens the exterior, signaling the project’s commitment to the region’s creative economy. Open Monday‑Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., the distillery invites both locals and visitors to taste history in a glass and hear it echo through live music.
