Dream Realized: Shailaja S. Kamat's Solo Exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery
Shailaja S. Kamat reaches a milestone at 80 with her first major solo show, Beyond the Shapes, hosted by Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai from 7–13 September 2026. The exhibition presents a vibrant series of acrylic cityscapes that pulse with the energy of urban life.
The canvases, numbering around thirty‑five to forty, move beyond literal architecture. Through abstraction, Kamat captures the hidden stories, struggles and aspirations that animate everyday streets, turning familiar skylines into poetic reflections of human experience.
Having exhibited across India and Dubai for decades, and guided by mentor Satyendra Rane, the artist treats this moment as a career‑long celebration. The show not only marks a personal triumph but also reaffirms her place in contemporary Indian abstraction.
