Fang Ting Ting Opens Toronto Solo Exhibition During First Canadian Arts Exchange

Fang Ting Ting launched her first Canadian arts exchange with the solo show From Here, What Remains at a modest space on Dundas Street West, running from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 2026. The opening gathered artists, curators, media and community leaders for a free, open‑access viewing that foregrounds personal loss and the lingering traces of memory.

The exchange began with a visit to Art Toronto, where Fang met gallery owners and arts professionals alongside Michael Janzen of the International Federation of Arts & Artists. A guided tour of the Art Gallery of Ontario followed, highlighting the Group of Seven and a painting by A. J. Casson, a personal touchpoint for Janzen and a bridge to Canadian painting history.

The exhibition itself is built around a five‑part “Life” series that uses hand‑stitched metal mesh, mirrors, moving image and participatory canvas. Works such as Within assemble mirrors in a wooden frame to distort reflections, Still the Same Net hangs layered mesh panels suggestive of family ties, and What If It’s Just This? presents a 52‑second video of mesh‑cutting sounds. A participatory installation invites visitors to leave marks on cotton canvas, turning the show into an evolving record of collective presence.

Beyond the walls of the show, Fang’s role as dean of the Asian Academy of Arts and curator of the A Manifesto series situates her within a global network of emerging and under‑represented artists. Recent projects have spanned Paris, Venice, London and the British Museum, underscoring her commitment to cross‑cultural dialogue.

The evening program extended to the Clint Roenisch Gallery, where Fang joined an opening for Indigenous artist Greg Staats. A gift exchange of Hainan agarwood and Canadian First Nations craftwork symbolized the reciprocal spirit of the exchange, linking contemporary Indigenous practice with Fang’s exploration of continuity beyond material loss.

Open daily from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., From Here, What Remains invites the public to contemplate how family, memory and materiality intersect, offering a quiet yet resonant testament to art without borders.
