Gallery walls turn into Bollywood bioscope
The exhibition turned the gallery walls into a vivid Bollywood bioscope, showcasing hand‑painted and digital posters from the golden era of Indian cinema.
Curated by Dr Navneet Sehgal and Dr Vandana Sehgal, the show draws on the private archive of IRS officer Suboor Usmani, whose lifelong collection of film posters and newspaper clippings forms the backbone of the display.
Highlights include iconic titles such as Mughal‑e‑Azam, Aan, Bhuvan Shome, Umrao Jaan, and a striking Ram Rajya (1943) poster reputed to be the only Indian film watched by Mahatma Gandhi. The Independence Day segment added patriotic works like Son of India, Saat Hindustani, and 15th August.
Visitors were invited to pose with their favourite images, creating a participatory atmosphere that bridges nostalgic cinema with contemporary digital reinterpretations. Curator Dr Vandana Sehgal notes that Bollywood’s universal appeal makes the exhibition accessible beyond abstract‑art enthusiasts.
