Giant Paddington, Dalek and dinosaur at free Cheshire willow walk
A new summer attraction has sprung up at Snugburys Ice Cream farm near Nantwich – a free willow sculpture trail that winds through a sun‑lit wildflower meadow.
Artist Sarah Gallagher‑Hayes, working under the name Twigtwisters, has recreated six beloved straw figures from the farm’s 40‑year history in sustainable Somerset willow. Highlights include a 50‑foot Paddington bear, a gleaming Dalek, a towering dinosaur and a charming Peter Rabbit, each fashioned from woven willow “lines” that give them movement.
The trail invites families to stroll among blooming sunflowers, snap photos, and indulge in the farm’s ever‑changing ice‑cream flavours – from miso caramel to Turkish delight. Dogs on leashes are welcome, making it a relaxed outing for all ages.
With the sculptures taking about two weeks each to craft, the project showcases the versatility of willow as an eco‑friendly medium while celebrating the farm’s milestone anniversary and its legacy of whimsical, larger‑than‑life art.
