Himachal Guv unveils Radhakrishnan's bust, inaugurates Kangra miniature art gallery

Kavinder Gupta, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, unveiled a bust of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study in Shimla, concluding the institute’s diamond‑jubilee celebrations.

He also opened a permanent exhibition titled Kangra Kalam: The Pahari Miniature Art Gallery, a space devoted to the delicate world of Kangra miniature paintings. The display foregrounds folk and rural scenes—village life, music, rituals and the intimate relationship between people and the Himalayan landscape.

Accompanying the launch, a new volume, Folk and Rural Imagery in Kangra Miniatures: An Indigenous Indian Art Perspective, offers scholarly insight into the tradition, reinforcing the gallery’s role as both a showcase and a research hub.

The initiative is presented as a bridge for tourists and scholars alike, inviting them to explore the shared cultural tapestry of Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand, and to experience a living legacy of Himalayan art.
