In the heart of the NSW Central Tablelands, a 5.2‑metre, 750‑kilogram concrete peg has become one of Australia’s off‑beat 'big things,' and the property that houses it is now on the market as the Staceys look to downsize.

The idea sprang from Peter Stacey after he spotted a photograph of a giant peg in Belgium. He persuaded a local fabricator to build the massive wooden‑to‑metal sculpture in a shed, and it was set into the soil at Canowindra in 2018.

Since then the peg has drawn a steady stream of curious motorists, earned a place on Google Maps as 'The Big Peg,' and even served as a wedding backdrop for locals who cherish its quirky charm.

Town officials describe it as an unofficial emblem of the community, though its perch on a hill crest creates practical headaches – there is no pull‑over lane and the surrounding lawn can become overgrown, prompting mixed reviews from visitors.

For the next owner, the sale offers more than land; it includes a piece of roadside folklore that continues to provoke smiles, photographs, and a sense of place for anyone who stops to look.
