In this art exhibition, the disruptions are where the truth resides
The Feminist Image Group is set to unveil their latest exhibition, Master Glitch, at the Techne Art Center in Oceanside. This showcase features 29 artists who have come together to challenge dominant social narratives and give voice to formerly oppressed and silenced voices. The exhibition focuses on the idea that glitches, often seen as mistakes, can represent a commitment to truth and a site of resistance.
One of the featured artists, Nanette Newbry, is an encaustic artist who has been part of the Feminist Image Group for four years. Newbry's work is characterized by its use of beeswax, pigment, and heat to create textured and layered pieces. She is drawn to the physicality of encaustic art and the ability to build up layers and create unique textures.
The idea for Master Glitch was inspired by the concept of truth-telling in a world where media and echo chambers can perpetuate untruths. The exhibition features a diverse range of artists and artworks, including Lisa Hutton's environmentally-focused pieces and Kathy Nida's stunning quilts that address feminism and reproductive rights.
