Jaipur's young artist paints stories of life
Simmer Rajpal, a recent graduate of Jayshree Periwal High School, opened his solo show Khoj – An Ongoing Search at Jawahar Kala Kendra’s Surekh Art Gallery. The exhibition presents a vibrant collection of paintings that trace the artist’s fascination with everyday moments, memory, and the natural world.
The opening was attended by established artists Vinay Sharma, botanical illustrator Damodar Lal Gurjar, and curator Rajeev Batra, alongside the young painter’s former principal and teachers. Sharma praised the "minute detailing" and depth of Rajpal’s work, calling him a "born artist" destined for a long career.
Rajpal’s practice spans acrylic, watercolor, oil, charcoal, graphite and mixed‑media portraiture. Beginning his journey at thirteen, he honed his skills during the COVID‑19 lockdown, turning a hobby into a disciplined studio routine. He cites nature, heritage and daily life as the core of his visual language.
Beyond the local scene, his work has traveled across India and earned a spot in the Faces of Care project at Club Academy, Manchester, supporting Friends of MSF. The exhibition underscores his belief that art is an endless search—a way of looking more closely at the world and the self.
