Lyons art gallery Western Stars reopens
After a year‑long hiatus, Western Stars Gallery has swung its doors open again on East Main Street in Lyons, reclaiming its role as a hub for Colorado‑made art.
The closure stemmed from a clash with the previous landlord, who wanted non‑local pieces sold alongside the gallery’s offerings. When Sally Glass purchased the building, she restored the space in memory of her son Christian, a local artist, and partnered with curator Chrystal DeCoster to bring the artists back.
Today the gallery presents work from roughly a hundred creators, ranging from paintings and pottery to crystal lamps, jewelry, handbags and even vinyl by the Lyons bluegrass group High Lonesome. The space also houses classrooms where makers can share their skills.
The reopening dovetails with the newly formed Lyons Creative District, which streamlines state funding for local projects. Visitors will find familiar names such as Android Jones, Ruth Wilson, and Parker McDonald, whose award‑winning metal bison greets drivers outside. Handcrafted coats by Charmaine Nicholson add a textile dimension to the mix.
For the community, the return feels like a miracle; the gallery’s blend of established and emerging talent reaffirms Lyons’ reputation as a vibrant arts destination along the well‑traveled U‑36 corridor.
