Millet art exhibition marks World Food Day
On World Food Day, a striking exhibition opened at the YMCA on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, showcasing paintings crafted entirely from millets. The opening ceremony was led by the divisional railway manager, highlighting the event’s civic backing.
The works, sixteen in total, were created over six months by railway employee Meka Vijay Kumar. They chart a visual journey from forest‑borne grains and traditional millet cultivation through modern agricultural practices, packaged foods, fast‑food culture, and the resulting health concerns.
Beyond aesthetics, the show seeks to revive food heritage, promote healthier eating habits, and underscore the sustainability of millets. It will remain on display for three days, inviting the public to reflect on the story of nourishment.
