Railway Workshop opens infrastructure and Sculpture Park to the public

The Golden Rock Railway Workshop, a historic industrial hub dating back to 1928, opened its gates for a public celebration, inviting locals to explore its massive infrastructure and join Ayudha puja festivities.

The highlight was the newly unveiled Sculpture Park near the West Gate, where discarded steel and machinery have been transformed into 23 striking installations—from a vintage car and aircraft to iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa—each forged from the workshop’s own scrap.

Among the most talked‑about pieces is the anamorphic sculpture that morphs into the faces of former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam and Mahatma Gandhi when viewed from the right angle, a clever nod to engineering precision and national reverence.

Visitors also wandered the Workshop Training Centre, where historic photographs and scale models trace the evolution of locomotive maintenance, adding a nostalgic layer to the day’s industrial art experience.
