Rohnert Park: Sonoma State University Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos
The University Art Gallery at Sonoma State University has transformed its space into a vibrant Day of the Dead altar, inviting the Rohnert Park community to pause, reflect, and contribute to a shared celebration. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the week, the altar offers a colorful backdrop for remembrance and creative participation.
Each day brings a different flavor of tradition: Monday honored beloved pets with portrait displays, while Tuesday featured a live set by Mariachi Lobos from Elsie Allen High School on Seawolf Plaza. Mid‑week workshops let visitors craft marigolds and cut papel picado, turning the gallery into an interactive studio.
The program concludes on Friday with a communal taco lunch, a hands‑on printmaking activity, and a talk by associate professor Natalia Villanueva‑Nieves. All events are free and open to the public, providing multiple entry points for anyone who wishes to engage with the art, the music, and the spirit of remembrance.
