Seoul turns outdoor screens into citywide art gallery for Kiaf

Seoul is turning eight downtown media screens into a citywide outdoor gallery as part of Media Art Seoul × Kiaf, running until Sept 19. The two‑minute program loops hourly, showcasing works by four selected artists for commuters and visitors.

The loop presents four pieces—“Universe,” “Breath of Ink,” “The Birth of a New Flower,” and “Mirrormask: The Self Beyond the Boundary”—each lasting 30 seconds. Screens include KT Square, K‑Vision at Koreana Hotel, Lumi Media, LUUX, Ilmin Museum of Art and three municipal platforms, operating from 6 am to midnight, with night‑only facades at Atelier Nodeul and Atelier Gwanghwa.

The fair’s 25th edition at COEX also features a tactile‑digital installation: real green barley moves before an 8 m × 3.6 m screen, its motion mirrored by video, engaging sight, scent and wind. Additional works appear at Atelier Nodeul, Atelier Gwanghwa and Haechi Madang Media Wall.

Visitors can scan QR codes for AI‑generated audio guides, while city officials see the project as a way to weave media art into everyday life and boost cultural tourism.
