Singapore Airlines presents ‘Flight’ sculpture to Singapore Embassy
Singapore Airlines marked its 60th anniversary in the Philippines by gifting Impy Pilapil’s original sculpture Flight to the Singapore Embassy in Manila. The handover ceremony, held at the embassy in Bonifacio Global City, was attended by Ambassador Constance See and SIA Philippines General Manager Liwei Tai.
Commissioned in 2015, Flight spent a decade in the airline’s SilverKris Lounge at NAIA Terminal 3, where it offered travelers a familiar artistic touch before departure. Its new home places it alongside three other Pilapil works that have been displayed at the embassy since the building opened in 2008.
Award‑winning Filipino visual artist Impy Pilapil, known for working in stone, glass, steel, wood and paper, described the reunion of the four sculptures as a “complete narrative of harmony and shared identity.” She likened the sculpture’s theme of flight to movement, connection and the transcending of physical boundaries—mirroring the airline’s role.
Both the ambassador and SIA’s Philippines GM emphasized that art serves as a bridge between cultures, celebrating the long‑standing bilateral ties between Singapore and the Philippines. The gesture highlights how corporate patronage can provide artworks with a meaningful new home while reinforcing diplomatic friendship.
