Singapore MRT art showcase
The Art In Transit programme has been transforming Singapore's MRT stations into vibrant public art spaces since 1997. With over 100 artworks commissioned to date, the programme has become an integral part of the city's urban identity. From murals to sculptures, these artworks not only add visual appeal to the stations but also reflect the location and history of each area.
The programme's expansion to existing stations along the North-South and East-West Lines has brought new life to these transit hubs. The curation process for these artworks is a careful and considered one, with the Land Transport Authority conducting public calls for artists and overseeing the selection process with the Art Review Panel. With Professor Tommy Koh and Mok Wei Wei at the helm, the programme aims to create artworks that are inspiring, accessible, and technically feasible. As the MRT network continues to grow, the Art In Transit programme is set to become an even more significant part of Singapore's urban landscape.
