Union Station frights, an inflatable sculpture for grownups, and more things to do in Denver
Denver’s downtown corridor is buzzing with family‑friendly Halloween fun. The 12th annual BOOnion Station transforms Union Station’s Great Hall into a trick‑or‑treat haven, with mini‑train rides, balloon artists and a costume contest on Thursday, Oct. 29. Across the street, Larimer Square hosts a free Trick‑or‑Treat Street on Saturday, Oct. 24, offering candy, a photo booth and more seasonal activities.
The Biennial of the Americas brings an unexpected adult playground to the city: the inflatable sculpture oximoron by Pablo Kobayashi and Lucía Aumann. This 27‑foot‑long, 13‑foot‑high work invites visitors to move through its shifting interior at Denver Pavilions from Oct. 23‑25. Admission is free, though a 30‑minute guided slot for small groups requires a reservation, and a Friday night opening party adds live music and drinks.
Film lovers can head to Boulder for the 14th annual Boulder Jewish Film Festival at the Dairy Arts Center, running Oct. 25‑Nov. 1. The program spotlights contemporary Jewish culture, including a screening of "You Had to Be There," which revisits a 1972 Toronto production of Godspell featuring Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy and Martin Short. Each showing is followed by a talkback that deepens the conversation.
On the fringe of the horror calendar, indie director Ty Bradford’s B‑movie‑esque UCK premieres at Mutiny Comics & Coffee on Oct. 29. The event blends a screening with a tongue‑in‑cheek pre‑show “vacuum training” that lets participants practice sucking alien entities out of a carpet. Tickets are $18 for the film alone, $25 with the interactive experience, and a second showing lands at the Dairy Arts Center on Nov. 6.
