'Wildwood: Follow the Crows' art trail launches in Portland in August 2026
In the city of Portland, a new art trail has emerged, featuring 30 vividly colored, 6-foot crow statues, each hand-painted by local artists. The sculptures are part of Wildwood: Follow the Crows, a free, self-guided trail that combines art, scavenger hunt, and civic celebration. The event is tied to the upcoming Laika movie Wildwood, which tells the story of a Portland girl rescuing her baby brother from a murder of crows.
The art trail is a joint effort from Laika, Downtown Portland Clean and Safe, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and Wild in Art, and will be on display through Halloween. After the event, the sculptures will be auctioned off, with proceeds supporting OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Participants can download a map or use the Wildwood Follow the Trail app to locate the crows and unlock rewards and exclusive offerings from sponsors.
The project has a strong connection to Portland, with the series’ main character, Prue McKeel, hailing from the St. Johns neighborhood, where a special crow featuring a map designed by Wildwood co-creator Carson Ellis is on display. The event celebrates the city and its connection to the Wildwood story, which was written by Decemberists front man Colin Meloy.
